N O R T H A M E R I C A N B I R D S 136 G R E AT B A S I N Ruddy Ground-Dove was photographed at Overton W.M.A., Clark 11 Nov (†JBo). A Yellow-billed Cuckoo was reported at Corn Creek 12 Aug (fde JT). Nevada's frst Ruby- throated Hummingbird was a hatch-year female at Mesquite, Clark 9 Sep (b., †NB). Acorn Woodpeckers were at several Nevada locations, including Mountain Springs, Clark 6 Sep (JSt), Pyramid Lake 14 Sep (KB), Limerick Canyon, Pershing 21 Sep (ph. D&RS), Reno, Washoe 29 Sep–6 Oct (FP, RS), Spring Mountain Ranch S.P., Clark 5-12 Oct (DC et al.), and Pine Nut Creek, Douglas 12 Nov (MSt). An imm. Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was at Mountain Springs, Clark, NV 4 Nov (JSt), and a Red-breasted Sapsucker visited Lytle 6 Oct (RF). PASSERINES An Eastern Phoebe was found at Carson River Park, Carson, NV 29 Aug (RLo). A very late Ash-throated Flycatcher was observed turned up in the Region: at Echo Reservoir, Summit, UT 19 Aug (ph. DHa), at Mason Valley, W.M.A., Lyon, NV 9 Sep (RLo), and at Antelope Island 20 Sep (J&KB). Single Stilt Sandpipers were found at Pahranagat 15 Sep (GS), El Dorado Lake, Clark, NV 20 Sep (JSt), and H.B.V.P. 28 Sep (ph. TH). Three Stilt Sandpipers were at Farmington Bay 15 Oct (MH), and a remarkable 24 were found there 26 Oct (J&KB). An early Red Phalarope was a nice surprise at Silver Peak, Esmeralda, NV 1 Aug (ph. GS). Sabine's Gull sightings included 5 in Nevada in Churchill, Elko, and Washoe 8-30 Sep (FP, M&LP, MM) and 8 in Davis and Washington, UT 5 Sep–13 Nov (BO, NJ, RF, J&KB). Single frst-cycle Little Gulls turned up 12 Nov at Boulder Beach, Lake Mead, NV (ph. GS) and at Antelope Island (ph. PH et al.); the latter remained until 16 Nov. A Lesser Black-backed Gull lingered at Lee Kay, Salt Lake, UT 12 Nov+ (J&KB et al.). Parasitic Jaegers were found at Pyramid Lake 24-31 Aug (ph. RLo, TSc), 13 Sep (ph. JH, RS, DG), and 10 Oct (RLo). Two were observed at Antelope Island 21 Sep–4 Oct (ph. NJ, BF, LS et al.). A Long-tailed Jaeger also graced the Antelope Island Causeway 26-27 Sep (ph., †MH, WS, ph. PH). Nevada's ffth confrmed Common Ground-Dove stopped at Dyer, Esmeralda 7-9 Sep (ph. GS, RS, DG), and the state's third included a single at Sunset Park, Las Vegas, Clark, NV 9 Aug (JBo) and up to 3 lingering at Quail Creek 1 Aug–24 Oct (RF et al.). A Least Bittern turned up at the confuence of the Santa Clara River and Virgin River, Washington, UT 14 Sep (CE, ph. ME) during fooding. A Reddish Egret wandered from Las Vegas Bay to Boulder Beach, Lake Mead 27 Jul–28 Sep (TH, ph. MS et al.). Green Herons were n. of expected range at P.A.D. 22 Aug–14 Sep (ph. NJ, DM) and Boynton Slough, Washoe, NV 16 Sep–11 Oct (CC, RS, DG). Common Black Hawks turned up outside of expected locations at Rainbow Canyon, Lincoln, NV 1-7 Sep (RLo, JSt) and Farmington Bay 5-6 Nov (DC et al.). Red-shouldered Hawks were found in Utah at Lytle 23 Aug–3 Oct (S&CS et al.) and Cedar Valley, Iron 8 Nov (BS et al.). Broad-winged Hawks were photographed at Dyer, Esmeralda, NV 8 Sep (MM et al.) and Corn Creek 20 Sep (MM). It was a relatively slow fall for rare shorebird sightings, but an American Golden-Plover at Pahrump, Nye, NV 9 Oct (DF) was a welcome exception. A Ruddy Turnstone was photographed at Ogden Bay W.M.A., Weber, UT 24 Sep (ph. MH). Surprisingly, 3 Ruffs Four Red-necked Grebes appeared in the Great Basin region in fall 2014, including this one at the Bountiful Pond, Davis County, Utah 1-6 (here 1) 6 November.
