The species had been suspected of nesting in that area since at least 2004, but this represents the frst confrmed Regional nesting since the 1970s (J. R. Jehl. 1977. Annotated list of birds of Islas Los Coro- nados. Western Birds 8: 91-101). Black-headed and Blue Grosbeaks winter commonly in Baja California Sur, the former returning as early as Jul, but neither species had been recorded in Jun previously. Thus, a Black-headed Grosbeak in the Sierra de Las Cacachilas 18 Jun (PU) and a Blue Grosbeak on the road to San Antonio de la Sierra 16 Jun (GM et al.) were remarkable. Two Great-tailed Grackles at Rancho San Anto- nio de Murillos in the Sierra San Pedro Mártir 3 May were the frst seen at this long-term study site (GRC). Ongoing investigations in the Si- erra de Las Cacachilas turned up a stunner, with a Yellow-green Vireo 19 Jun (†PU). Nine previ- ous Baja California Sur records are restricted to the Vizcaíno Peninsula area and the date span of 29 Sep–4 Nov; another 16 have been found in Baja California 21 Sep–22 Oct. Horned Lark has been suspected of nesting in agricultural ar- eas near La Paz since 2007, but confrmation was not obtained until an ad. was found carry- ing food at El Centenario 14 May (ph. GM, AM, RH). Traditionally, the s. limit of the breeding range has been the Magdalena Plain. A Tree Swallow at Real del Mar 18 Jun (RAE), Cliff Swallow at Laguna Guerrero Ne- gro 30 May (PB), and Barn Swallows at San Miguel 5 Jun (EDZH) and Estero Bocana 7 Jun (2, PB) were unseasonable, but 2 Barn Swal- lows at Cantamar 18 Jun (RAE) weren't goofng around: they were feeding young in a nest un- group of oversummering ducks at Presa el Cen- tenario, Qro. 23 Jun, including 3 Blue-winged Teal and 5 Northern Shovelers; 2 Northern Pin- tails were also there 3 Jun (JH). Sixteen Blue- winged Teal were at Laguna Refugio Salcido, Dgo. 2 Jun (JHMG). Two Red-breasted Mergan- sers oversummered at Estero El Soldado, Son. 8 Jun+ (ph. LEAB). A Northern Bobwhite was heard calling at Río Santiago Bayacora, 12 km se. of Durango, Dgo. 6 Jul (BS, BR, AL). An ad. Yellow-crowned Night-Heron was recorded along Río Santiago Bayacora 6 Jul (AL, ph. BS, BR). A Spotted Sandpiper was at Los Jagüeyes, Chih. 20 Jun (ph. DK). A frst record for Nuevo León, a Willet was found at a pond in the community of La Hediondilla, Galeana 12 Jul (ph. RV, MB). Three Wilson's Phalaropes were at the Chacalilla shrimp farms, Nay. 17 Jun (MS). Three Ring-billed Gulls were at Presa de la Constitución de 1917, Qro. 30 Jun (JH). A continuing second-cycle California Gull was also there 24 Jun (MS). A pair of Gray Hawks was seen at Lomas Altas, D.F. 15 & 28 Jun (HCL); presumably this is same pair that has been seen there regularly since Sep 2013. Three Eurasian Collared-Doves were at Av. 414A and Calle 1525 on 5 Jul (HGdS, MPV) and one at Centro Cultural Bicentenario, Ciu- dad Azteca, D.F. 25 Jul (HGdS). A male Ruddy Ground-Dove was near Tetecala, Mor. 8 Jun (NC). A fock of about 15 Monk Parakeets was at Parque La Deportiva, Chihuahua, Chih. 28 Jun (ph. MAAM), and 2 were at Estero El Chino Five Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks were at Laguna de Zumpango, Méx. 10 Jul (HB). Two American Wigeons were at Granja El Destierro, Jal. 21 Jun (ARG), and 10 Blue-winged Teal were at Laguna del Rodeo, Mor. 8 Jun (NC).
