Very rare in AR in winter and just the second winter occurrence for Pulaski, a Baltimore Ori - ole was at Maumelle 22 Jan (LS, MSt). A very surprising AR state first and perhaps the bird of the season, an ad. male Brambling was seen and photographed by many as it attended a feeder at w. Little Rock, Pulaski 23-24 Jan (CH, DSc, GL, LR, m.ob.). A Lesser Goldfinch present at Alexandria, Rapides 10 Feb–2 Apr (JH, m.ob) delivered LA's fifth state record. Eckert –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– A late freeze of large lakes in the south- ern Yukon produced noteworthy winter records, while Christmas Bird Counts across the Region turned up un - expected wintering species. Our appreciation goes out to the many Northerners who, de - spite some extreme weather conditions, spent time observing and reporting on the Region's winter birds. WATERFOWL THROUGH SHOREBIRDS A juv. Tundra Swan, casual in winter, was among 16 Trumpeter Swans at Johnson's Crossing 31 Dec (ph. CE, AS). Rare winter ducks included a Canvasback at Johnson's Crossing, s. YT 3 Jan (BD, CE); single Greater and Lesser scaup and a White-winged Scoter at Lake Laberge 5 Dec (BD, CE); a Long-tailed Duck at Lake Laberge 1 Dec (BD, CE); sin - gle Barrow's Goldeneyes on the Whitehorse C.B.C. 26 Dec (JH), and at Tagish Narrows 17 Jan (CE). The Arviat, NU C.B.C. recorded 34 Common Eiders 19 Dec (fide MB), while the Rankin Inlet, NU C.B.C. tallied 16 on 31 Dec (BZ). At Sisimiut, Greenland, notable ducks in - cluded 3 Common and 5 King eiders 11 Feb (KUH). Willow Ptarmigan is common around Yellowknife, NT in winter; a count of 78 was recorded during the C.B.C. 2 Jan (fide RB). Sin - gle Sharp-tailed Grouse were noted on the Fort Simpson, NT C.B.C. 27 Dec (DT) and along the Liard Hwy., NT 2 Jan (DT); 4 were seen on the Norman Wells, NT C.B.C. 26 Dec (SB, SS, DW); 2 others were noted during the Yellow - knife, NT C.B.C. 2 Jan (fide RB). Lake Laberge in s. YT is one the last large water bodies to freeze in the area and is therefore a good loca - tion to search for lingering waterbirds. Some of the more interesting finds this season included a Pacific Loon 1 & 5 Dec (BD, CE), a Com - mon Loon 1 Dec (BD, CE), and a Red-necked Grebe 1 & 5 Dec (BD, ph. CE). A Yellow-billed
